Managing Director – Lions Eye Institute

Professor David Mackey
Professor David A Mackey was born and educated in Tasmania, studying Medicine at the University of Tasmania. After resident years in Launceston and Hobart he trained in Ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, subsequently doing a fellowship in Paediatric and Genetic eye diseases at the Royal Children’s Hospital where he completed his MD thesis. After fellowships at the Johns Hopkins Centre for Hereditary Eye Diseases in Baltimore, USA and Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, UK he returned to Australia to specialise in Genetic Eye Diseases. He ran the genetic eye services at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne until 2009 when he moved to Perth as Managing Director of the Lions Eye Institute and Director / Professor of Ophthalmology at the Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Science, University of Western Australia.

Davinia Lefroy
Davinia Lefroy works as a private practitioner in Clinical Psychology. At eleven years of age Davinia was diagnosed with Stargart Macular Dystrophy. This has caused a gradual deterioration of central sight, leaving her with peripheral vision only. Although this condition has inevitably caused a number of challenges, she strongly believes that vision loss and blindness isn’t a preventative to achieving a fulfilling, exiting, meaningful and production life. In fact, loss of this kind can build resilience, character, insight, depth, problem solving skills and empathy.

After graduating high school, she went on to study an Arts Degree in History and Literature followed by an undergraduate in Psychology. Davinia then achieved a Masters in Applied (Clinical) Psychology and has worked since as a Clinical Psychologist in a variety of both public and private sector roles. Areas of specialty have included Sexuality and Disability, Abuse and Trauma and more recently, Adolescent and Early Adulthood issue. She is skilled in the assessment and treatment of a variety of conditions and issues including:

Mood disorders (such as Depression and Anxiety)
Adjustment, loss and grief issues
Self-worth and confidence problems
Emotional dysregulation and anger issues
Panic Disorder
Adolescent and maturation issues
Relationship and Socialisation problems
Eating Disorders
Disability related issues
Personality Disorders

As part of a new venture, Davinia now works in a Private Practice located in Claremont. This service is accessible via public transport (being very close to the Swanbourne Train Station). Daytime, after hours and some weekend appointments are available and clients referred by their GP may be eligible for Medicare and Private Health fund rebates.
